Yin

with Patricia Pinto โœถ 1/7/2024

The studio had a gorgeous courtyard entrance. The windows in the studio looked out onto the tranquil courtyard, which contained a beautiful view of Spanish moss-laden trees. The space was attached to an eatery, which was winding down for closing during our check-in. Cellphones were allowed in the studio, and there was a gal talking and making plans on hers quietly. There were multiple gals chit-chatting about what to do after yoga during the 10 minutes leading up to practice start time. It seemed like a great place to come if you are looking for a very social/bubbly community to connect with. Lots of positive vibes. The instructor was privately assisting some of the people from the last class regarding specific questions they had about particular muscle groups.

Since this was a yin class, the blinds were drawn, and the lights were lowered to a candlelight level. The room was nice and warm but not hot. Patricia led a solid yin class. I loved that she harkened back to the Chinese origins of the practice. This was the most interesting yin class I've taken so far because we started standing with some qigong poses prior to the normal seated/lying sequencing I'm used to. I enjoyed the three-minute poses as opposed to the five or ten minutes - because it allowed me to move through more muscle groups. I felt a full-body relaxation at the end of the practice rather than just one or two pinpointed areas. I loved the cue to open our legs up into a straddle during the Legs Up the Wall pose at the close of practice. I've never held that pose long-term before.

One tip would be to come early so that you can find street parking and not have a load of stress prior to practice. Patricia provided great instruction, and the class was very relaxing.
