POWER FLOW

with Janet Isabelli ✢ 12/26/2023

The studio was a sanctuary. A visual immersion in what it would feel like to walk into the idiom β€˜on cloud nine’. The space was zen, uplifting, and, to be honest, pretty trippy. It had a surreal appeal to it - being that there were arched mirrors that lined opposing walls. It had sort of an infinity feel to it. The lighting was just right. The concrete floor had been treated with something aqua to match the rest of the studio's motif, and it felt like I was on some form of hyper-energized natural stone. I really enjoyed the artistic expression of this studio - it felt like I was practicing inside of a romantic painting. It has a very divine feeling vibrating throughout it.

This studio seemed very popular, so I would advise coming early if you like to position yourself where you are comfortable. The studio maintained a very quiet, respectful tone regardless of how many people flooded in. Lots of practitioners were enjoying pre-savasana or stretches before the class began.

The infrared heat was just right. There were no spaces in the studio that stood out as hotter than the rest; it was well distributed. I definitely worked up an absolute sweat during the practice but never felt overwhelmed by the heat.

The true gift of this space was getting to practice under Janet’s guidance. Janet was an amazing spiritual leader who provided a sermon that filled me with life force. She brought enough raja for herself and for everyone in the class. It’s rare to find a teacher so filled with passion that you cannot help but meet them on the same plane. I am not filled with fire like that, but Janet flushed my embers with oxygen and got my flames roaring.

Not only was she incredibly adept at inspiring a deep connection to spirituality - she had an incredible knowledge of the particulars of each asana. I love when teachers are able to provide alignment cues in a power flow because often the body is so focused on movement that it’s hard to consider the pauses. Janet always made sure to have our back, whether it was to better align or deepen the pose. I found myself able to control my focus on the smaller details of each pose even though we were powering through them because the timing of her cues were perfection. I had so much fun in the sequence and was so absolutely present I cannot actually recall the poses. This happens extremely rarely for me. I am generally able to remember the basic flow of what my body has done - but when I achieve a full-throttle flow state during practice, I literally lose track of time and my body. Janet’s sequence was such a sojourn I don’t remember anything other than deeply connecting with my existence in such a precious way that only Yoga can give me - and absolutely feeling full of life and simultaneously incredibly drained of energy afterward.

Janet’s chanting was next level! Her voice and harmonium skills were hands down one of the best natural highs I have gotten from someone singing outside of the synagogue. It was truly a metaphysically transporting experience. This studio has a towel fairy who comes around and places an icy towel over your forehead while also taking the time to press into and around your third eye gently. There is nothing like the sweet relief of an icy cold towel once you’ve spent an hour sweating your butt off.

This studio is heavenly. I recommend it for anyone who wants to truly connect their brain, heart, and body as one. This space definitely comprehends and facilitates a space for yogis to achieve full-body prayer.

(Tip: Power Flow is called Power at this studio)
