FLOW

with Lara Valperga ✢ 1/18/2024

This studio is cute. I love studios with a top-story view because they are just a little higher above the sounds of the ground in a busy city. The little cottage-style structures butt up against Greynolds Park, so it’s got a big deep clean green earthy smell and sacred silence that most of Miami doesn’t have. The tree scent is so thick it truly permeates the little commercial village that in which this studio is centered. And if you’re lucky, maybe it just rained, and you get to practice with the aroma of a full-bodied petrichore.

The studio room smelled gorgeously woody from incense. There were wonderful plants hanging around the studio. They brought such a unique form of fresh air to the practice room. The room was warm, just the way I liked it. I never felt like the heat was doing the work to loosen me or make me sweat because it wasn’t overwhelming. It was just making my muscles open up faster than if I was freezing.

Lara's voice was beyond relaxing. She could do online meditation voiceovers, and her tones would be effective for absolute relaxation, even from the metaverse. It's so soft and gentle and kind. Her voice is truly a human sound bath. Her voice glides you on a cloud throughout the class. There is no possibility of walking away from this class with a negative thought in your head after hearing Lara’s lullaby cues.

The class started at dusk, and the naturally dim light was so soothing. The only additional light in the room as the sun set was the faux LED warm-toned candles lighting the perimeter. By the time we went into Savasana, it was naturally time for the day to die, and the light was gone. It was such a mystical experience.

The flow provided a super strong burn, yet it’s pace was slow, and the holds were deep. I was amazed at how much sweat I worked up throughout the flow because the movement was not fast-paced. Lara knew how to work us hard and relax us even harder - without the fanfare of extravagant motion.

The most exquisite part of practice was Lara’s Savasana sound bath. I cannot believe this captivating sound bath was included in a normal yoga class. I generally have to pay extra in order to receive access to such astounding sounds. Definitely check this studio out if you want to melt into your mat.

(Tip: Flow is called Hot Yoga at this studio)
